* These examples are provided for guidance only. The size you require will depend on a number of factors including whether the image is to be used for printed or online purposes, the eventual size the image will appear at and the DPI setting used if printing. Please read below for further guidance. If in doubt you can download / purchase a smaller size image then upgrade to the larger size if necessary, only paying the difference in price.

Pricing policy

The prices of our small, medium, large and extended licence images are the same for all the pictures on FreeDigitalPhotos.net.

High resolution images sold with our standard licence will vary in price, starting at US DollarUS$10.00. This price is set by the image creator and can be up to a maximum price of US DollarUS$50.00.

Using images on screen / web

The size the image appears on a screen is decided by the pixel count, as shown in the screen size column above. The print size is not relevant for screen use (e.g. on websites).

Using images in print

When an image is printed it is made up of tiny dots that are almost invisible to the eye, ensuring the image looks clear and smooth. When printing digital images, the pixels are the dots.

DPI is a setting within the image that tells the printer how many dots (pixels) to use per inch. The industry standard for high definition printing of pictures viewed from a short distance (e.g. in magazines, brochures and so on) is 300DPI. For images that are viewed from further away (e.g. posters, billboards) the DPI can be reduced and still produce excellent results.

The high resolution version of this image is 5622 pixels by 3741 pixels, which will give a high definition print size of 18.7 inches x 12.5 inches @ 300DPI. Or, by lowering the DPI, the print size increases. If you divide the number of pixels by the DPI figure, you will get the print size (in inches).

What DPI are our downloads?

Small, medium and large images are all 96DPI. Most of our high resolution images are 300DPI, however some might be different as it depends what setting the contributing artist supplied. However, it doesn't really matter what settings are supplied, as they can be easily changed yourself using a graphics package. We will even do it for you (see below).

How to change the DPI

DPI is a setting within the image and can be easily changed in any graphics program, or by anyone in the design / printing industry. Or, we can do it for you free of charge.

Free resizing service!

If you purchase an image and want to alter its size, this can be achieved in most image manipulation software. But if you cannot do it yourself, we are happy to do this for you free of charge.

We can change the number of pixels to fit a specific size you need, and/or change the DPI setting. Just contact us after purchasing and let us know what you would like.

If you ask us to change the number of pixels, we can only resize an image downwards (make it smaller). If you need a larger image you would need to purchase a larger size (see below).

We only offer the resizing service to customers who have paid for images, not free downloads.

Please contact us by email to arrange this, quoting your order number. Our email address is included with your order information.

Bought an image but find you need a larger version?

If you find you need a larger version of an image that you bought, we can upgrade it for you, and you will only pay the difference in price.

In your order confirmation, to the right of each image ordered, there will be an option to upgrade it to a larger size.
